What was the biggest highlight of your fellowship experience?

Reflecting on my experience with the Colorwave fellowship, the biggest highlight was the opportunity to connect with a diverse community of talented professionals and mentors. The insights shared, particularly around breaking into venture capital and understanding the intricacies of economic development, were invaluable. Being selected as the only representative from Alabama, and potentially the only African American woman from the state in this cohort, made the journey incredibly meaningful.

How has your career trajectory been impacted by completing the fellowship?

In terms of my career trajectory, the fellowship has provided a platform to elevate my aspirations. It deepened my commitment to program management and operations, especially in the realms of education and nonprofit work. Colorwave has helped me refine my approach to leadership and development, sharpening skills that will guide my pursuit of high-impact roles in the future, with a focus on fostering systemic change in education and economic development.

Why do you think programs and communities such as Colorwave need to exist?

Communities like Colorwave are essential because they empower underrepresented groups to break through barriers, gain access to networks, and foster an environment of inclusion and innovation. They create pathways where systemic gaps exist, offering mentorship, resources, and a sense of belonging that drive sustainable career growth and economic resilience.

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

In the next decade, I see myself in an executive leadership role, likely overseeing programs that bridge educational and economic opportunities for underserved communities. I hope to be driving initiatives that foster equity, resilience, and innovation at a broader scale.

How has the wealth gap impacted your life or family and what do you believe might be critical to overcoming that?

The wealth gap has personally impacted my family, creating financial hurdles that required resilience and adaptability. Critical to overcoming this disparity is access to quality education, financial literacy, and economic opportunities. Programs that advocate for these resources—and, importantly, make them accessible to everyone—are foundational in narrowing the gap.

Why would you recommend the program and joining Colorwave?

I would recommend Colorwave wholeheartedly for its commitment to empowerment and inclusion. This program equips fellows with skills, networks, and a deep understanding of how to effect change, making it a catalyst for both personal and professional growth. It’s a space that fosters a supportive community, encouraging individuals to grow beyond their perceived limits and build a career with purpose and impact.
