I really enjoyed high school at OSA! It was a very unique experience being able to focus on arts. Even though my path didn't lead me to become a painter as a career, I still paint to this day and will always consider myself an artist. Also, I am married to someone I met at OSA so that hugely impacted my life!
I love being from The Bay! There is so much talent that comes from The Bay and growing up there was such a special energy that Oakland exuded. Between the Hyphy movement, Turf dancing, Side shows (when they're not crazy and violent which is a sad part about Oakland... ), all the beautiful murals and artwork around the city, there's just a vibe that is unmatched about The Bay and most people from The Bay feel a very special pride about The Town. For me and a lot of my peers it was about not having much, not coming from much, but making the best out of it and still appreciating it.
Being one of the first classes that moved into the Fox theater and experiencing both the tents and portables to being in the beautiful new building, I HAVE to say that big white tent was my fondest memory! Having dances, watching performances and plays, having assemblies, it was just so unique. We also had a lot of fun clowning it and yelling out, "I got my education from the streets" because at that time we were literally in the middle of the street.
Ah, this is very difficult! I appreciated a lot of the teachers but the one that comes to mind didn't teach a class and that was Mr.JD Cogmon. He was such a bright and bubbly spirit. You could tell he really cares about the well-being of the students. He always made so many of us feel comfortable and he is truly missed.
