After graduating college, I've been a working designer. I started off as an Industrial Designer at IDEO.org before moving on to UX, Branding, ventures in the Health Industry.
I'm proud of the work we do at Hopelab, from launching health products in a previous strategy, to our current strategy of helping the next generation of Health Tech startups and innovators.
Oakland School for the Arts showed me that being a creative was a possibility. I saw adults who looked like me who were following their passions, sense of mission, and doing it in the vibrant Bay Area. I'm proud to follow in those footsteps.
Oakland is a diversity of experiences, from our social justice to our music, to the people who bring grit, determination, and a spirit of community to everything we do. I bring that with me in every room I step into and every challenge I take.
I'll share an appropriate one back to the school ;) One of my fondest memory came through conflict, a couple of boys in the visual arts program (myself included) were disrupting the class. Our teacher challenged us to put that into our art, to put that energy into our sketch books. After a couple of smart remarks, I think some of us took it to heart. I'm glad we were challenged to put ourselves into our art, even the warts.
Too many to name. Mitch Pryor for teaching me its okay to be a nerd. Liza Gesuden for telling me its okay to be an activist. Josh Keyes for teaching me the heart of a creative. Andrew Junge for brining heart to anything I do. And most of all Javon Cogmon for giving me a space to feel the full weigh of my emotions, you save a young man, you are missed everyday.
