After OSA I chose to go to Humboldt State, now Cal Poly Humboldt, and majored in art education. I’ve been residing up in Arcata for the most part, since my boyfriend is from the area, and I’ve been working at his former elementary/middle school working as a classroom assistant in the 5th-8th special education since graduating Humboldt.
It’s certainly fostered my want to work in education, the chance to be an educator and support to someone like my former OSA teachers were to me.
Since moving to a much smaller town it’s put into perspective the diversity that Oakland had to offer us and how that affects the youth.
I think my participation in the art shows and performances as a whole were some of the fondest memories I’ve got from OSA. The entire emphasis coming together to show off what we had poured our time and effort into was very memorable. Having the chance to work with David Smith during my TA periods in highschool is also a rather fond memory, having the chance to give back to the school and help fix the laptops for staff while being able to learn more in the technology range was a lot of fun and something I look back at fondly.
Andrew Junge has probably had the most impact on me, his unwavering support while in school helped make me the artist and person I am today. He never gave up on any idea when presented to him and helped bring our ideas into reality while a student.
